My dining room: Transforming your home on a budget

There are so many uses for this room now what a transformation.

I Love, love, loveee being creative especially in my home. I like to be different by clashing colour patterns as I find it takes an otherwise normal interior and makes it a piece of Art thats personal to you.

(During the process) It already looked great.

My aim is to make great interior design affordable for those who are house proud. For this room I decided to go for a quirky dining space, with a modern and eclectic look but at a minimal price.

Sofa bed someone had thrown out. All I added was a throw and some cushions.

It all started with a sofa bed. A friend of mine spotted one dumped out in the street. We brought it back to mine and thought; ‘What we gonna do with it now?’ It was a bit of laugh at first but then we started thinking of ideas.

IKEA is amazing for bits like shelving.

Habitat, TK Maxx and IKEA are all great places to grab a bargain when shopping for cute pieces of furniture. I managed to get the lamp, lamp shade, shelving and the Buddhas all at good prices.

Lamp from TK Maxx and the floating desk from IKEA.

My dining room is small so I had to think what it would work best as other than a storage space. I still wanted it to be a place for the family to have dinner but I also wanted it to be a bit of a lounge for when I have people over and also for it to double as somewhere I can work from home.

Was using the room for storage at one point, what a waste of space.

I found that Ebay was a great place to find items I needed at surprisingly low cost will definitely be checking on there first in the future. I managed to get the table and chairs and the wallpaper.

“The dining table and ‘ghost’ chairs are a great unobtrusive touch”

I’ve had great feedback on the wallpaper which is good to hear as I was hesitant when purchasing as it was a bit out there even for me (this coming from the woman who has Marylin Monroe plastered all over her downstairs toilet); but I love it especially when we all start naming the fish after a few drinks.

Ultimately the possibilities of this room are endless as it’s a great place to take pictures, meditate and my personal favourite host an alcohol fuelled night in with the girls.
